Waleed Abdalati, Head of NASA's Cryospheric Sciences Branch at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), explains how Greenland came to be and what would happen if it were to disappear.
The red areas on the graphic at left show the amount of melt which occurred more than three days between May 1 and September 30 for 2007.
